Arkansas Waterfalls

Just starting to explore the great state of Arkansas on my waterfall hunts. Can't believe I have put this area on the back burner for so long. but my plan is to go there once every month right up into the fall season for the fall colors. The first trip was an easy one to kinda break into it all. We stopped by and photographed a small waterfall called Haw creek Falls. Then went on to an area called Six Finger Falls, Falling Water Falls and finally Fuzzy Butt falls. Check often as the next trip will add more images to the collection.

This water fall is called Falling Water Falls near Ben Hur Arkansas just off of Forest Service Road 1205.

artist point falls Arkansas

This shot is above Artist Point Falls in the morning before we started our decend down into the valley. make sure you visit this spot right after a rain or you will be dissapointed when you hike all the way down and see nothing but a trickle of water.

Eden Falls Arkansas

Eden Falls near Ponca in the Hidden Valley area.

Can't say enough about this place. it's beautiful and you can spend your entire day here photographing water falls in this area as well as spots along the way to the main falls. Eden Falls is in the Buffalo National River Park. The town of Ponca is very small but plenty of canoe rental places here for a float trip down the Buffalo River.

It's a moderate hike to see the main falls here. When we arrived the area was saturated with rain with more on the way. So the high cliffs that surround Eden Falls had numerous other waterfalls all along the trail.

Glory Hole Falls Arkansas

Glory Hole Falls

Glory Hole Falls is a seldom visited water fall with a moderate hike involved. This is another spot you will want to wait and make sure the area has had plenty of rain. Luckily, I arrived soon after a torrent of rain and drenched the area. It's an easy hike down, but you will remember it on the way back up. the first part of the hike back up is fairly strenuous. It's about a mile hike in, so two mile round trip. There are several other cascades around here soon after a large rain fall. Glory Hole was a must see for me. Two different trip before, I had put off going down here because of the lack of rain. but on this trip, my wait was over and was the first on the list for that day. Glory Hole falls is located off Hwy. 16 just west of Deer Arkansas. I will post directions and GPS coordinates to Glory Hole Falls later.

Triple Falls Camp Orr Arkansas

Triple Falls near Camp Orr Arkansas

Sometimes called Twin Falls because of the lack or rain, Triple Falls near Camp Orr will get you pretty wet with the spray it produces. It's an easy hike to see Triple Falls but the trail is pretty muddy here. I've seen many photos of this waterfall but we hit Triple Falls at its peak and were rewarded pretty well with what we saw. One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Arkansas. if you are in the Buffalo River area, this is a must see.

Devils Den State Park Arkansas

Devils Den State Park

Devils Den is in Lee Creek Valley near Winslow Arkansas. One this trip there was very little rain in the area for other waterfall locations I had picked out to see. So this as well as Natural Dam Falls helped make the trip not be a complete bust.

Natural Dam Falls Arkansas

Natural Dam Falls

Natural Dam Falls is probably the easiest waterfall to see. Its north of Van Buren about 15 miles. Take Hwy 59 until you see Natural Dam community. there is a sign that will show which road to take. The waterfall is right off the road and no hiking at all is involved here. If you are in Arkansas during a dry spell, there will always be water running here since it is fed by a Mountain Fork Creek.

Six Finger Falls Arkansas

Six Finger Falls

Six Finger Falls is located in the Richland Creek Wilderness area. It's right off the dirt road as you travel down Farm Road 1205 near Ben Hur, Arkansas. The falls were moderate when we arrived to photograph them. I have seen photos posted of them a mere trickle as well as a raging river. Overall I prefere the moderate flow here when we got a chance to visit. Not much of a hike at all to see them. Just pull over and walk down to the creek. you can see them from where you park.

Liles Falls

Liles falls

Liles Falls is just north of Jasper off HWY 7. It's an easy hike to get to the top of the falls. But getting down is tricky especially if it is real muddy. It had rained hard the day before and I think we were all surprised at how much water had already drain off from other waterfalls we visited the day before. Just goes to show that most of the beautiful waterfall images you see from the Arkansas area are right after a big storm has come through. We still had plenty of water to make a decent shot of the area.

Cossatot Falls

Cossatot River State Park Natural Area stretches for 12 miles. The main area just north of Devils Hollow Falls is where the Cossatot Falls are located. When the water is high this area is known for its white water kayaking with its Class IV and V rapids.

Cossatot Falls River State Park

Located about 15 miles west of Wicks Arkansas on HWY 278, it is a pretty easy place to get to as you turn off a dirt road east of the bridge and visitors center. But I do not recommend camping here in the public camp grounds. Its not because of the lack of camp sites, but the lack of respect the people seem to have for fellow campers. People seem to think it is perfectly fine to pull in at 3:30am and set up camp and run generators and let their brat kids and dogs be as loud as they want to be. Or you may have a camp site next to you where the guys think it is ok to drink all night and talk as loud as they feel like.

I have camped all over America and never have I encountered more self center people then I have here at this park. You’re better off finding a secluded dirt road nearby and putting up camp there.

collins creek heber springs

Collins Creek at Heber Springs

GPS: 35.514727,-91.990714

When all other waterfalls fail you for lack of water, head to Heber Springs. This waterfall is fed by a pipe from Greers Ferry Lake. John F. Kennedy Park, near the Greers Ferry Fish Hatchery off Hwy. 25

North Little Rock's Old Mill also known as Pugh's Old Mill

North Little Rock's Old Mill

Not really a waterfall of Arkansas, but a nice historical site to go to. Also known as Pugh's Old Mill. It's usually over run with wedding photographers and other people. So you may be standing a while to get a nice shot with no people in the way. Something or places I usually try to avoid to keep my blood pressure down.
